Uitsoek Mountain Marathon – the hidden gem of trail races in Mpumalanga!

The start/finish venue for the Uitsoek Mountain Marathon is the Uitsoek Hiking Hut, owned by SAFCOL and Komatiland. It forms part of the famed Fanie Botha Hiking Trail.

For those wanting to stay onsite and soak up the full Uitsoek experience, rustic camping and the dorms in the hiking hut are available. It is a classic hiking hut, so don’t expect frills, but the showers are hot, the views are spectacular and the cel signal is non-existant (we see that as a plus!!).

But if you want something more comfortable, please see the Calverton Lodge under our accommodation options (click HERE) – long-term supporters of the race, they host an aid station on the 40km. There are also other options listed within within 20 minutes drive of the Uitsoek Hut (depending on road conditions).

This trail had been tucked away in a hidden valley, by massive indigenous forest and open grassland. It offers an incredibly picturesque race with 3 distances that takes you to your limits. This race shows the real beauty of the Mpumalanga trails that had seen very little attention from the trail running community and Uitsoek uncovers it as a rare gem!

Please note the road from Sudwala to the hut is dirt and is often to be in very rough condition.
